With the retirement of Paul Scholes, one of the finest attacking midfield players of the Premier League era has brought his glittering career to a close. The Manchester United star was undoubtedly a fine exponent of the beautiful game's more attractive craft, his passing and vision on the pitch was class apart. Scholes justified the hype as he went on to become one of the most gifted players England has ever produced.
Shy off the pitch, devastating while on it, Paul Scholes' life was spotless and his career was a lesson to all aspiring and young footballer on how to gain greatness and stay at the top.
Even the French legend Zinedine Zidane said, "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. He's almost untouchable in what he does. You rarely come across the complete player, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get."
At Wembley in the Champions League final, Barcelona players ran up to him to swap their shirts. As many as five Barcelona players were eager to swap shirts. Xavi, Busquets, Pedro and Messi walked up to Scholes, but it was Iniesta who beat them all to it.
